The Director of Children and Family Ministries provides leadership and works closely with staff and lay volunteers to create ongoing ministry to reach new children and families for Christ and support the growth of children of the church community in experiences of Jesus Christ and lead a program plan of Christian Education which will impart the fundamentals of the Christian faith to children 0-12 (6th grade) and their families. The qualified candidate is a committed disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ. They exhibit holiness in their personal relationship with God as well as their public life. They are passionate about educating children in the historic orthodox faith of Jesus Christ. They are prepared to work together on a team with volunteers, staff, families, and children to raise healthy and holy children. They are prepared to continue developing and growing a vibrant and healthy children’s ministry at First United Methodist Church.
Organizational Relationships
The Director of Children and Family Ministries reports to and will be reviewed by the Senior Pastor. The Director of Children and Family Ministries supervises:
Child Care Staff
Any other staff as designated by the Senior Pastor/ SPRC
The Director of Children and Family Ministries functions as a Staff Liaison to:
Children’s Ministry Team
Happy House Board
Any other committee/group as assigned by the Senior Pastor/ SPRC
Tasks and Responsibilities
Reach new children and families for Christ
Responsible for developing children’s faith in Christ
Ensuring the safety of children and families
Oversight and leadership of Sunday morning Sunday School
Recruit, train, and deploy volunteers
Oversight of Outreach Ministries (Pioneer Club (Mid-Week After School Ministry), Vacation Bible School, etc.)
Attend weekly staff meeting and Program Team meetings as scheduled
Select and deploy curriculum for Christian Education with consultation with the Lead Pastor
Work with the Happy House Director to include Happy House children and families into the life of the congregation
Oversight of special events for children and families
Leadership of our children and volunteers to summer camp
Development of relationships with children and families
Any other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.

Ability to recruit, train, and deploy volunteers in ministry
Commitment to confidentiality
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Computer Competency (Microsoft Office: Word, Power Point, Publisher, Outlook, Excel)
